I've been looking for a cost effective star program, and just today stumbled upon this little gem:

The price is right and it's pretty neat and easy to use. Zoom's cool, too.

Nice. I used to be into astrophotography. I sold my light bucket, Celestron Super 8, and CCD camera to a sailor. I had too many expensive hobbies. I have been teaching my 6 year old the constellations.... I just cannot help myself. I was such a star geek I was an officer in my college astronomy society and hosted star parties at our house.

Great find Stu.

I can see I'll be fumbling around in the dark next spring now!

There's an app for I Phones and Droids that also runs the same style program.

Playing around with it the other night (of course, it was cloudy! nerts!) there's a setting that changes the stars to red on a black background, like a red light down below when night sailing. It should be clear tonight to give it another try.

I found it on the UK site, Practical Boat Owners, http://www.ybw.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=13, Maine Sail turned me onto it.
