To answer your question re: field disconnect on the Guest ( or other make) battery switch. This feature shunts the current should the key be shut off accidentally while the alternator is charging. This would only be applicable to alternators that have an internal voltage regulator.
My MD6A was equipped with a Bosch alternator ( as I stated earlier )There was a warning on the panel in regard to closing the switch against the alternator with the motor running.
Now the good news: The Delco-Remy unit that can be fitted to your engine is part # 1101998. It is available from Jebco Rebuilders, who are located in New Jersey. To;; free # 1-866-829-7589. E-mail jebco@.... Price is US $129.00 FOB.
You will have to weld up a bracket to fit ( probably convert the existing one which already is bored to fit the engine ) Get a suitable pulley ( or bore out, plug and rebore the one that is on the Bosch unit that I am assuming you still have, and say good bye to the hand cranking.
