Does Starboard plastic compress? I want to use it to mount some deck organizers in place of teak.

No it doesn't. I used it to make a removable helm seat for my boat. It's dense like a dense wood and machines pretty much like wood. I also have a folding pedestal table made out of it. Very nice stuff.

Good for that purpose, I have used a lot of it.

Look at the different brands. Some have a solid white appearance, others almost translucent. I prefer the solid white appearance. A suggestion: I've worked with this material and regular wood cutting equipment works well. One thing I have noticed is that regular wood screws do not hold very well in the plastic like they do in wood. So, I always through bolt with washers. That way I know nothing will pull out under stress.

Best I can tell is that Starboard is UHMW polyethylene, which is compressible. It's like more dense plastic cutting boards, or more dense milk jug plastic.

G10 fiberglass reinforced epoxy board, aluminum plate, SS plate, or hardwood is a better option for backing plates, in my opinion.

That being said, most deck organizers I've seen are used to redirect the horizontal run of a line, and I don't think they see as much load as, say, the turning block at the base of a mast bringing down a halyard and turning it 90º from vertical to horizontal.

It sounds like he wants to use them to set the deck organizers up off the deck instead of a backing plate.

Ooops! In that case he should be fine. It would work fine for a spacer. :D:D:D

I know some Precisions, they use it for hatch sliders, crib board retainers, and catbird seat bases, so it's exposed to sun all the time, and seems to hold up well.

For screwing into plastic you want a tri-lobular screw. As the name suggest, it isn't round but has three lobes which lock it in. The threads are also slightly bigger and sharper to cut and provide more pullout.

I used the white starboard to make winch pads. Came out pretty good and no maintenance.
