I have a couple of stantions on my H34 that are bent, I was wondering if anyone has experience in repairing or if should take them to a speciallty shop, I hate to buy new ones if repairs are possible without significant implications on strength.

Simple replacement of stanchions. Any local sailboat shop should have lengths and various widths you can cut ti size. Or buy online.

Repairing bent ss is not a good idea, because once bent tube metal loses a lot of strength.

The store here on sbo might have them for Hunters. Otherwise, Garhauer is usually the best bang for your bucks and they'll make anything for a great price that in most cases will be beat local sourcing even if you add s/h.

Good luck.

My vote is to at least investigate repair, especially if you have some place to take it to. Cost can be lower, will fit back on the boat etc. Attached are pictures of two stanchions that were broken off at the base. That was 5 years ago and there is no sign of corrosion problems.

I had about half the bases weld repaired on my H34. I thought only one needed to be fixed when I started, but as I removed the stanchions I found that more of the bases had issues. I removed all the stanchions with the lifelines and took them to Cherry Welding in Edenton, NC. It was excellent work at a very reasonable cost. If the base is the issue I recommend this solution.

Bases are fine, simply the stantion is bent.
If you can pull them, any machine shop with a hydraulic press should be able to get them pretty much back in shape. Bring a good one with you for them to compare.

Can you provide a pic to show how much of a bend? If not a major bend, this might be a DIY project. SS is pretty malleable. A lever with some muscle might do the trick. Otherwise, a local rail shop can do it for you.

I have replaced a couple of stantions on my Hunter 34. You may find that your old stanchions are glued in with 5300, so allow extra time for removal. I bought new stanchions off the site, but they need to be bent to be more upright. Any shop that does custom boat towers can bend these to match the bend of the removed stanchions for a reasonable fee. I would not try to bend these using any normal hand tools.

The H34 does not use a standard stanchion. The H34 uses a tapered stanchion that is available on this site.
