$1100-1200 + installation

Martin: I received a quote from Seco South. They quoted about $1100-1200 about 2 years ago. This was just the materials. I think you need a rigger to swedge the deck ends onto the cables.

That sounds...

...a little steep. I paid about $125 per stay for my boat although it was a couple of years ago. I installed them myself. It's really not that hard to do. Next time I'm using the new braided synthetic line for all but the headstay. It's soo much lighter and stronger and there is no creep and you don't need turnbuckles. The cost is only slightly higher than steel cable but the performance increase will be dramatic because of the weight aloft savings. "...A value leading alternative can be braided synthetic line. There are a few good choices here, Vectran and Dynex Dux are 2. A simple understanding of the material and constructional properties is all you need. The price of braided synthetic standing rigging is similar and sometimes even cheaper than steel rigging due to the elimination of hardware like turnbuckles!"

Adjustments, Alan?

W/O turnbuckles, what would you use to fine-tune the rigging? Is there some type of screw adjustment? RD

Tension in the lines

To Alan and others, If you go to braided synethic side stays how would you adjust the tension in the stays ?? At present I use stainless steel side stays and use the P-3 Loos Gauge to set the tension. Plus, how would you terminate the stay at the spreader bar and at the deck ?? Would you set the tension with a turn buckle or is there another way to do it ?? RD
