Standing Rig Tension

My standing rig seems a bit loose and I wonder what setting in pounds y'all use on the upper shroud and forward and aft lower shrouds as the manual is not specific and seems to encourage looseness. Thanks Good Winds Dave s/v DAMWEGAS

Get Loos...

Dave, go right now to West Marine and buy a Loos rig tension guage, suitable for your wire diameter. Read their manual. Determine the wire size of your rig. Determine the breaking strength of that wire(in pounds). Now, select a % of the breaking strength, based on experts opinions, research, type of sailing, age of rig, and that manual and dial in those %'s. Check the archives here for previous posts on the subject. Take the guessing out of the equation. Good luck. Don
