Has anyone used the re- rigging kit from Catalina Direct to re - rig the standing rigging on a CAT 22? If so, how much working knowledge is required? I have a CDI roller furler on the boat and I am not sure how that impacts on my choice. The kit costs 350 dollars (and still requires the sepaarate purchase of a backstay). Any thoguhts on what it would cost to hire a rigger to do that kind of work? I am not afraid of tools but I have no experience working on swages, turnbuckles, toggles and the like. All thoughts are appreciated - Additional resources, books etc. Again Thanks, Safe Sailing.

Find a local shop...
Remove your rigging, take it to the shop and have them duplicate it. Lots cheaper. Shop around....once you know the dimensions you can call around for a quote. Replacing the wires will be relatively inexpensive. The shop will swage the connectors to the wire, all you have to do is hook 'em up. It's pretty easy if you drop the mast. There are many sources for tuning the rig after you've reconnected everything. Changing all the turnbuckles and toggles can add considerable expense to the project. Have the shop check them if you're unsure about which to replace.

I used the CD kit and also the adjustable backstay kit. I bought the video too. The kit is well made and easy to install. I am especially impressed with the adjustable backstay. I took this opportunity to also remove and reseat all of the chain plates as well. I am very happy with the CD kit. I also looked through the West Marine catalog and priced all of the components. The CD kit is actually reasonably priced for all you get.

When I replaced all my rigging, I did it with the installation of a CDI furler and an adjustable backstay. CD will provide you with a forestay with a toggle at the top of the forstay for your furler that ie recommended by nearly all furler manufacturers. The backstay adjuster is an excellent item as well, even with a furler.

Toggles?
Are toggles standard on a C22? I have a 1980 C22 #9102 without toggles below the shroud turnbuckles. When lowering my hinged mast, I have to turn the deck fittings about 1/4 turn so that the misalignment strain at the deck fitting will not bend the lower turnbuckle stud/clevis. I loosen the top & lower aft shrouds for this stepping of the mast. The forstay & lower forward shrouds are disconnected. Regards, Bob B.

No toggles on shrouds
I have a new CD kit and the toggle is for the forestay so that it is ready for a furler. The shrouds do not have a toggle, just the turnbuckle. When taking the mast down I loosen or remove the stays so that there is no binding.
