I currently sail a 23 which has limited headrooom in the cockpit. I am looking for sugestions on any boat which would give me about 5'9" of head room and at the same time keep the length as short as possible since a do some sailing without a crew. Is there anything in the 25 range or do I have to go larger? Thanks

Oday 23

Hey, My first boat was an oday 23 (1973) and it had approx 6ft of headroom in the cockpit (never measured it) i'm 5'10" and never had a problem.

I've single handed a lot in 26 and 27 foot boats

I've singled handed a lot on 26 and 27 foot boats and haven't found it to be a problem.

O'Day 240

The Headroom under the main hatch on the O'Day 240 is 5ft. 9in. Hull length is 23 ft. (Length overall w/ rudder and bow pulpit is 24'7".) Headroom is of course less as you move away from the max under. the main hatch. Displacement is 3600lbs. With its aft-lead main halyard and reefing line, the boat lends itself to singlehanded sailing.

In the cockpit? about 2,000,000 miles.

I think you mean the cabin. C25 with a poptop. C27. C30. Stu

$ for inches

The Ericson 25+ has 6' in the cabin and great use of space below. Real good boat, too.

Dana

I believe that the Pacific Seacraft Dana 24' has 6'2" headroom in the cabin. Nice little boat. Very strong and seakindly.

Maybe he's talking about the height of the boom over the cockpit.... but, maybe not.

I thought about that, too, but you can always swing the boom over to the side, and I'm assuming that he's not talking about when sailing. We'll see. *5 Stu

Yeah, me too. But I forget that on smaller daysailor type boats the boom is often quite low. You must be sitting down to avoid the boom as it swings across. (I think of the Capri 22 right away.) On my C27 the boom has almost 6 feet clearance when standing in the cockpit so it's no problem.

A Cal 2-25 would work

I had a Cal 2-25 before I trafed up to a Catalina 310. I really miss that boat. Very Well built, sailed rock solid, and it had FULL standing headroom in a 25 footer-down below and in the cockpit. 25 foot size made it VERY easy to single hand. You owe it to yourself to find one of these and look at it before you make your decsion. Skipper Ken s/v Juliet Catalina 310 Rockwall, TX
