We are spending more and more time on the boat in preparing for full time cruising/living....my wife despises both the current fridge and freezer.

Have you installed a more stand up fridge/freezer in your 42..? Where and what worked best for you. We don't have the washer/dryer so that space is available as is most any space in the galley. Did you get 110/12v or ...?

Sizes seem to be more available and the technology as well...since our 1991 boxes were done.

Thoughts?

Compass Rose,

We've lived on our P42 for a number of years (off and on), and are doing so now again, prepping the boat for crossing the pond to the S. Pacific and NZ again. I'm guessing that you've calculated your energy budget, and your energy generation capacity, for accommodating such a reefer/freezer and decided you could supply the power required. (The two units together consume so much power that we just use the freezer alone, and put our vegies and non-freezables in the larger section and freeze things in the small section; we don't turn the reefer on, but use it for storage).

I'm also guessing that your distaste for the original units is due to the top loading, and not the actual performance of the Adler Barbour units. And I totally understand that. If I'm wrong in either of my assumptions, let me know, and I can tell you about our replacement of the Adler Barbour units with the Frigoboat system. It's awesome. However, if you want to go front loading rather than top loading, I don't have any info on that kind of a change. We still use the original boxes.

Cheers,
Paul
