The replacement stanchions are here for Hunters built from the late 80's through the mid-90's:

Some 31 and 34, all 30, 33.5, 35.5, 37.5, 40.5, 42, 43... boats with aluminum toe rails and the wrap-around bail.

Also, the bases for the 31, 34, and 25.5 that do _not_ use the wrap-around bail are in.

These have been out of production for years and we're excited to make them available again.

Hi Phil
The wrap around stanchions that I ordered fit great. Very good quality part and very much appreciated that you have them available. I'll be ordering two more soon.
Thanks, Mike

Just got my new bases. Do they ever look great! Thanks again for going the extra mile and having these reproduced. Now I have to get the rest of the boat looking as good as the bases.

Quick question on the new stanchions for the 35.5 - do they have the plastic liner/insert in the lower half of the stanchion, presumably to add rigidity, like the originals? This is the piece, that when water gets into the stanchion over the winter and freezes, pushes up and either cuts/traps the lifelines, or pops the weld on the bottom of the stanchion?

If not, great - I may be looking at picking some up. If so, is there a weep/drain hole drilled towards the base of the stanchion to allow water to drain?

Thanks!

There is no stiffener in the stanchion; there is a ferrule but it's a different design than the old one which we hope will minimize or eliminate water in the stanchion.

jeepsailor, I just went back and looked at my notes to see what we decided about this. The problem with the old stanchion wasn't the lower ferrule, it was the top. Under the plastic cap the stanchion is hollow and open. In other words, there is no ferrule in the top lifeline hole. That's where the water is coming in, then dripping (pouring?) down to the base and causing mayhem.

The new design has a solid tip and a better seal for the lower ferrule, so you shouldn't have the same winter problem.

Phil a question. The stanchions on my 95 336 are fitted into the stanchion base as shown in the pic. Do all of these replacements come with the wrap around bail? Will these work by slipping into the base which is mounted on the deckrail or do I need just the stanchion post which I cant seem to find?

Thanks in advance if you can help.

Just to clarify, the stanchion we're talking about in this thread sits on an aluminum toe rail. The one you have works on boats with a fiberglass toe rail and looks similar but the dimensions are different.

We can provide both the base and the stanchion you need for the 336, here:

The base is a little pricey, as Hunter fabricates them as needed. It's best to buy them together as they make sure the holes in the stanchion and base match up.

Thanks Phil. Will do further research when I get a chance to stop by the boat.

Phil and jeepsailor that is exactly what happened to my stanchions. The new ones I just got from the SBO store did not have a drain hole in the bottom... but they they do now!. I drilled a 1/8 inch hole on the inside below the toe rail before mounting them. There does seem to be a very nice lower ferrule and inner stiffener, is that correct Phil?

Und So.. the next question is where to get the stanchions for the 34 that don't use the bail? Because of the deck angle on the 34, the stanchions stick out past the rub rail.. especially the ones amidship. If one is sliding along a piling on the rub rail, the stanchion will be bent .. I know a guy who has at least one of those bent looking ones!.. They have a ferrule on top and a hole through the middle, and are tapered. Note the second one forward in this shot.. base is kinked a bit.

I have a 1986 Hunter 34 with stanchions that don’t look like any in this thread. I have the bases that are shown but my stanchions don’t have the “t-top”. They look similar to the ones with the wrap around base, but they are straight tubes on the bottom that slip into the bases that clamp to the toe rail. Is there a source for that type of stanchion? Many thanks!!
