Stanchion tube removal

I have to replace a couple of the stanchion tubes on Cindino as they have been bent. But I can't for the life of me figure out how to remove the tubes from the bases. The bases are round with no visible means of locking the tube in place. No set screws, no through bolts. Only thing that comes to mind is the tubes are either threaded on the end and screwed into the base (kinda unlikely but hey...) or that the tube is held in from the bottom of the stanchion base with some kind of expanding bolt deal like a old bicycle handlebar expansion bolt. Any other thoughts? David S/V Cindino

David, it would help to know what boat you have

Also unless the tubes are kinked, they can be straightened. Less cash, eh?

Stanchion removal

If the stanchions are bent it's probably about time to re-bed the bases, so remove everything and procede from there.

Thanks for the pictures David

It looks like you covered it. The bases have to come off. Hey, it's a machine. Nothing magical. One thing. My friend, in the 70s closed that motor well and hung the engine on the transom. That's when we started winning races. Gained storage too. It was a T Bird clone. (Rawson 26) Just a thought in case your blood boils too. :)

Yeah...but

I have been told that once before but I think it would totally spoil how she looks... David

Welded bases?

David: I think you may find that they sell them with welded bases and removable bases. You can find new ones on this website. They also sell them at Garhauer Marine.
