Two of the port side stanchions on my H28.5 got loose. It looks like the the bottom of the stanchion tube got separated. Don't know if this is correct. Is there a way to fix it? If not where can I get the replacements for it? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Take 'em off the boat and have 'em welded up. The bottom is a round "bung" thats threaded and the screw comes into it from below the toe rail if I remember correctly. I had an '87, 28.5 which I should have never sold, and had the same problem. Good welder can fix you up inexpensively. Just make sure the "bung" is welded in flat or flush to the end of the stanchion, not at an angle.

pix?

Can you take a picture and post it. I had the same thing, it sounds like, happen. I had it welded and all is good now. Basically I removed the life lines, then the stanchion and the based from which the stanchion had broken. I had a guy weld the base back onto the stanchion and reversed the process.

Thanks guys for the prompt response. I got it. Will get this done at teh boatyard. I still don't know what caused the damage. May be the boat hit the pilings during the last Northeaster. Oh well.. Thanks again.
