Stanchion leaking

Hi folks, on my 331 I have a leaking stanchion, the one by the gate on the starboard side. I have gone to Beneteau USA spare parts, which is fantastic because it shows the "blueprints" and sometimes the pictures of all of the parts of the various models and the way everything is put together.
I assume it is a question of removing the nut from inside, pulling it out and re-sealing?
Anyone ever done this before?

I have, and it is as you described..just the one nut. I would use butyl, but pretty much anything is better than the silicone that was used to bed things on my 331! One good thing is that the areas that the stanchions go through is solid and not cored.

To expand on ARF145's admonishment on silicone, Don Casey, as on the BoatUS website, has a concise piece. There are other reasons to read and follow Casey's suggestions, I'm assuming that the gate stanchion wasn't mechanically "challenged" by some event(s)?
