I've removed the hex screw in photo that removes the stanchion then there's a short male end protruding up through that silver cap. That cap wont allow me to get to the deck to see the bedding . How is it removed.

There's a nut inside the boat you need to remove. If it is anything like the Ben361 access is horrible!

Whatcha whining about!? At least they give us access! Why, on my 331, I was once able to find, check, and tighten 2 or 3 of them and it only took 5 or 6 hours, 3 different kinds of wrenches and sockets, and a couple of hours of counseling afterward ;-)

I would tend to think the cap is merely a cover over the fitting going through the deck. It seems that the cover could be carefully pried off. Its likely that there is some bedding compound adhering the cap to the rest of the fitting. Just a thought, I have yet to take a stanchion apart so I could be mistaken.

Have a look at the attached. The cap (base) cannot be removed unless you remove the nut inside the boat.

Edit: Provided it is similar to B361.
I never would have considered that! Whoever designed it considered the stability of the base but not ease of removal I suppose.
