Ok guys here is a different topic, I am putting on a party for about 20 people with just steamed crabs and beer, does anyone know how many crabs to pick up?...the beer I can work out, thanks, quite a bit.. Thanks Larry Jordan S/V Valor Oriental NC

Crabs?

Yes Larry, That would depend on what kind of crab. Is it the blue crab where you eat the body, or king, the big ones? Snow, (my favorite) or stone? Alot depends on the size. If it is snow crab, I like about 3 crabs worth of legs! Let me know when & where, I'll bring the beer! Cheers, Brian

Minimum 1/2 doz per person

1 1/2 dozen per person if you can afford it other wise add ten pounds of under fifteen, shrimps.

2, maybe 3 bushels

It will take 2 bushels usually when the crabs are large, like the no. 1 jimmys. I would say 3 bushels if that is pretty much all that's on the menu. Remember that the crabs must be ALIVE when you steam them, never eat a crab that is dead even a few minutes before they get cooked! It's a great feast though. We do crab crackings a few times throughout the summer.

i take that back...

more like 4-5 bushels that should give you about 1 and a half dozen crabs per person which is about right

1 dozen per person.

A couple of years ago four of us had dinner at the "Crab Claw" in St Michaels, MD and that's all we had plus a few pitchers of beer. That was a memorable meal. Cleanup is easy just wrap the shells in the newspaper and throw out.
