Bonami should do it

Bill, It is good stuff, an abrasive but should not cut through the gelcoat. If you have owned the boat for a good part of it's life and know that the gelcoat has not been worn heavily, try this. That is if bonami does not work. Use 400 sand paper to take out most of the stain, Then buff it out with rubbing compound. Wax it and make this area a weekly cleaning area so that it does stain up again. The other option if it is water line grung, tape it off, ( you may consider raising the water strip some)sand it and paint it with antifouling paint( a barrier coat would be good to apply first.) Hard to say without seeing it. r.w.landau

Wait just a minute

Before you start scrubbing your hull with abrasives, try FSR (fiberglass stain remover). It is a gel sold at marine stores. We have used is succesfully. Also, you can try a little clorox clean up with bleach (never straight bleach on your gel coat). The problem is, gel coat thickness varies all over the boat. If you get too thin you must re gel-coat that area. Color matching is the real problem there. Good luck Doug

SnoBoL toilet cleaner

We have "brown water" in the St. Johns river that constantly leaves a brown stain on the transom and just above the boot stripe. A wise old dock master told me to try Sno Bol cleaner on it and it really works. Make sure you wear gloves as the Sno Bol will clean off you skin as well. Spray it on, rub it with a light abrasive sponge type cleaner, let it set for 10 minutes and then spray it off. You will be amazed at the cleaning power. It also works well in the water cleaning the hull. Spray downwind to keep it off of you and I use my mask and snorkel to keep it off my face.

Denture Cleaner to the Rescue

Bill you may be saved by the remedy we always used when I moored my boat in Annapolis Royal NS. There was a terrible brown stain that would accumulate at the water line caused by foam generated by the mixing of fresh and salt water. We resorted to denture cleaner available through a dentuist friend. I don't know what was in it, but it sure took a bite out of the water line stains! Smooth Sailin' Eric
