What is the best way to remove stains on sails? My sails look brand new in some areas but at the head and tack there is some mildew stains. What is the best way to get rid of these?

Old Remedy

My granny use to use White Vinegar, I still do. BUT! It really depends on the Textile/Fabric and any Chemical Applications that have been applied to it. Lets say I use to own a Sail, I put certain UV Protectants on it, then I put some Water Repellant chems on it, well I just 'sealed' the Textile/Cloth. For stains I normally take em out back, run em up a Flag pole in my backyard, stretch out the foot, and start cleaning with Soap and Water. If is a stain that is stubborn, I use White Vinegar on it. Normally works, sometimes it doesn't. But is still good Sail Care.

Just got mine back from Sail Care

I was in your shoes and sent my sails off to Sail Care (on the advice of posters on this board). I was impressed with the results. They also found and restitched a couple of places I hadn't noticed. The sails look brand new (reimpregnated with resin). They put tell tales on and threw in some extras. All this for two hundred and some change for both sails for my H19. I am a happy camper.
