I recently bought a 1984 Catalina 36. I don't believe that the rigging has ever been changed. I looked through the archives but couldn't find the answer...."Are there kits available to replace the rigging (as in smaller boats) or do I have to buy all raw materials?" I was given a verbal quote of $5,000 to hire the job done. Doesn't this sound high? Many thanks for some advice.

$5,00 is way high!

I purchased a complete, new set of standing rigging last year for my 1984 C-36 tall rig from Catalina for $690. That was two upper shrouds, four lowers, a forestay and backstay. Thisdid not include the turnbuckle bodies. They don't do rigging anymore, and although it was a good price, you should be able to take or send your rigging soemwhere and have it duplicated for less than $1000. Check Rigging Only in Fairhaven, MA. www.riggingonly.com for material and labor pricing. My quick estimate for a C-36 is $960. jv
