I have been trying to rid my boat of bad odors. while investigating I found some standing water in the forward part of the boat . It seems this water should be draining to the bilge but it isnt. has anyone else encountered this problem. thanks. by the way my boat is a 1978 hunter 30

Where is standing water?

You do not say precisely where. Most Cherubini owners have had to redrill the weep holes. Usually they are too high in the frame. Or just increase the size so the hole goes to the bottom of the frame. But there are areas forward in the boat that do not even have weep holes because they are not supposed to have water in them. On my H37C the chain locker and, aft of that, the center v-berth locker are sealed. Same for the two side lockers in the v-berth.

Limber holes

There should be limber holes through the grid members that run across the blige to allow the water to go aft. Mine have tubes embedded in them, and a wire rigged through them all to make it easy to clean them. If you have limber holes, a quick cleaning to dislodge any material will solve the problem. If there are no limber holes, then you need some. Dry out the bilge with sponges and rags. Then drill holes to take a short section of PVC pipe (ours are about 1/2 inch O.D.). Coat the hole with epoxy, and embed the tubes to keep the water out of the grod emebers. That should do it. The only hard part will be drilling right at the bilge level, and parallel to the floor. No limber holes

Like Ed's boat, my H27 does not have any limber holes in the section under the V-berth. (I have looked!) Usually it stays dry, but I always check it...

My 31' Had the Same Problem

Water gets "below" your sump and grows things that your nose will never forget. I had to drill a 1" hole in the bottom of the sump to allow about 10 gallons of trapped sludge water to get out. Now every three months we fill the sump with bildge cleaner and water and let it slosch around a few days and drain. Finally the smell was gone. good luck.

Does anyone have pictures of the location of the new holes?
