Bill, welcome back from Key West. I have some questions on the Doyle Stack Pack. Is it an integrated sail/cover combo or can it be added to an existing mainsail? Is there any performance penalty when setup with a Stack Pack? How do you reef with this system installed? Thanks for your input. Rick Catalina30 MkII

My Old Stack Pack

1. Yes 2. No 3. Same if you did not have in installed. Comment: The full battens can hang up when raising the sail, but no big deal just turn the boat a little and let the wind swing the batten between the lazy jack lines and raise the sail quickly. Nothing better than to drop the main and zip it up and be it dock, while other or fooling around with flaking and sail tie. P.S. My new H290 has a simlar system.

Uk stack pack

Last year I had a Uk stack pack installed on my 37 Hunter. What a great system. I highly recommend it. There are numerous sailmakers that makes a stack pack system. I will never own another sailboat with out it. Make sailing easy and fun agian. Takes the work out of using the main sail. I have a partially batten main, no problems hoisting the sail. Reefing is the same as if no system was installed. Buy it! Best money spent yet.

StackPack Retrofits

Rick, Though the Doyle StackPack is a bit easier to install when it is being assembled on a new sail, it can also be retrofitted to an existing Mainsail. The Port and Starboard sides of the system are sewed on to the sail. The patented Membrane holds the cover tight against the sail when sailing. Aside from the additional weight there is insignificant decrease in performance, and the convenience it affords is well worth it. Reefing is basically unaffected by the system. Reef lines exit through leather padded slits in the cover. Also, there is the added benefit of eliminating the use of the intermediate reef pointsand ties, because the StackPack will capture the lower part of the sail when the halyard is dropped.
