My boat has a ST6000 Autopilot. I use the boat a lot and the autopilot is in use nearly all the time. It has given perfect service. I am planning a long trip next year. Should I carry out any special maintenance? Are there any spares that I should carry? What is the typical life of the linear drive unit?

Sealed Unit

This drive is considered a sealed unit. There are not really any maintenance procedures or service points. Much of the wear depends on the vessel handling characteristics, severity of use and thrust involved. If you are planning an extended trip, you might want to have our service center look at the drive for you. They can inspect it for worn components and recommend any necessary replacement components. I would suggest carrying complete autopilot components if you are going to be traveling to any remote areas on an extended voyage while shorthanded. This is very expensive, but it is a good idea, especially if you are short handed and consider the alternative.
