A fellow Beneteau (B331) owner purchased a Raymarine ST5000 Sailpilot for his B331, then was told that this unit was too big for his boat and suggested an ST4000+ MarkII. My response was that this pilot would be the preferred choice and will provide better rough water performance. Does anyone have experience with this installation? Is there any reason that it will not work on the B331? Jon McClain

St5000

Jon, I posted a response to you the other day but apparently I guess I didn't hit the submit button. Anyway, while I don't have any experience with the the unit I don't see any reason it won't work on the 331. I will say however that it is a bit too big. I have a 361 and have the ST4000 on my boat and it works very well in any rough weather that I have encountered. IMHO I think it is a bit overkill

Charlie, Thanks for the input. The main Problem is that he purchased it nearly a year ago and is just getting around to installing it for spring. The vender will not take the unit back, so he is stuck with it. Only alternative is to sell at discount on Ebay or elsewhere. The ST5000 does have faster reponse especially downwind. Just thought that rather than reinventing the wheel, we would check with the knowledgable folks on this site. Jon McClain PS: We have an ST4000+ MarkII on our B321 and have been happy with it except for response time.
