ST50 Wind Cable Splice

In process of installing an ST50 Wind, but want a connection at the mast base as it is hinged, any special consideration? Visualized a male/female plug crimp-on connector with the entire connection covered with an adhevisive shrink-on.

Below Deck connection?

Gene:Can you put your connection below deck? Regardless of how well you try to seal this connection above deck, I believe you will have corrosion considerations. If you go below deck, you could mount all of your connections in an electrical project box (Radio Shack has them).I do not know boat you are dealing with so I have no direct advice. Do the rest of the wiring connect like this on deck? If this is a day sailor and you are stepping the mast on a regular basis, you could also spray the connection (above deck) with some type of a water proofing solution.

Junction Box

The unit comes with a small 5 terminal junction box. Anything that is well insulated and protected from the weather should be fine. I would recommend using the supplied junction box or its equivalent.

Bill, Not sure what you are talking about in your mention of a junction box that came with the unit. My Raytheon unit did not come with a junction box, nor mention one in the manual. Where would you mount the box? One question is does it hurt to cut/splice wiring to this unit and if OK any suggested guidelines?

Steve,Appreciate your response, but mounting the junction box below deck would necessitate resealing the deck penetration each time you had to lower the mast.

But how often are you going to do it in Houston?

Gene:You live in an area where the boat stays in the water year round. How often are you going to be going through this process? If you have to reseal every 5 years, who cares. If you have to do it every year, that would be different. They also make seals for wires that go thru the deck. Not sure what boat we are talking about.
