Okay, first off I have to confess i made this trip in a donzi regazza not a sailboat. However the trip by sail will take 3 to 4 days one way.It is a beautiful part of the ICW. You go past the Millionare homes of the 1800s at Jekyll Is.But beware at low tide. The depth can drop to 6 ft.near the Jekyll Harbor marina.Next is Cumberland Island national seashore.Wild horse roam the inland shores, usually at the north end of little cumberland close to the old lighthouse.Between Jekyll and Cumberland lies a nasty piece of water called St. Andrews Sound.Follow the makers CAREFULLY.At mean low water the depth can drop to 4 ft. in some places in the marked areas. The next point of intrest behind Cumberland is Brickhill river. It hugs the island and has some nice sites along it for lunch on the hook.Traveling south from there you enter Kings bay and the subbase. Then St. Marys and Fernandina Fla.This is where the First day will end and the marina there is a nice overnight spot. From this point the water gets clearer and the traffic picks up. Jacksonville is the next point of interest. After that it is about 4 to 5 hours to St. Augustine. The ICW forms a ditch from Ponte vedra Almost to St. Augustine. Here you can see manatees and other marine wildlife.Once you reach St. Aug. there are several marinas to dock at,or you can anchor in Mantanzas bay. We chose the municipal marina for it s convienience to the old city. Now that I have my old sailboat back,I will make a return trip.only this time i will need a week off.
