ST. Johns river cruise

Has anyone taken a cruise up the St Johns river to Jacksonville? Any good points of interest? ie, marinas, Restaurants, cool stuff? Taking the family for up to 2 weeks from Sanford up and then back. May visit ST. Augustine and Mayport before heading back. Taking advantage of our short winter weather before the heat settles in.

Cruising the St Johns

I've cruised the upper and lower St Johns but not the whole river. As mentioned, check the CFYC website. The Lake Monroe Sailing Ass'n used to cruise down to Hontoon Island every so often in the winter. Ask for info at the sailing school in Monroe Harbour Marina. I also know somebody at Monroe Harbour who cruises down to Silver Glen Spring every so often.You should be able to make Jacksonville in two or three days. Figure on motoring most of the way to Palatka. Claiborne Young's "Cruising Guide to Eastern Florida" gives excellent, detailed coverage of the entire St Johns River from Sanford to Mayport. Watch out for strong tidal flows and heavy commercial ship traffic between Jacksonville and Mayport. Good luck.PeterH23 "Raven"
