Finally! We bought our dream home in St. Augustine, Florida, about 4 miles to the Bridge of Lions. I plan to keep my boat here in New York for my summer fun, and would like to buy a boat for ICW and coastal sailing in Florida...My question...Does anyone in the St. Augustine area need crew? I'm not sure what kind of boat I'd like for Florida, nor am I familiar with sailing in that area. Some hands on experience would help me out. Please let me know if you know of anyone needing experienced (short term) crew. Thanks- Ed

Try Camachee Harbor Marina

It's on the left just before you go over the bridge to Vilano Beach on State Road A1A. St Augustine Sailing is located there. Quite a few people living in Jacksonville keep their boats there because it's a quick run out the inlet to the Atlantic. They also charter boats and have an ASA sailing school. You can also try the Conch House Marina. It's on the left just after you cross the Bridge of Lions going south on A1A. Good luck. Peter H23 "Raven"

Short drive...

We are about to lose the evening sailing time, but in the spring you might want to consider stopping by the rudder club in Jacksonville (I-295 at St Johns' river) and making friends with some of them, they have races on Wedensday evenings. I would highly advise taking classes out of Comanche Harbor in St. A. You will learn about the tides and how they impact the intercoastal there and the inlet (if you plan to ever go out). We sail out of there occassionally, and some hand's on experience with people very familiar with the inlet would be very beneficial for you.

If I were there

I'd buy a Hunter 216 and day sail it from the Conch House Marina. Your could also trailer it to other places in Florida for picnics and races. It got the cock pit that is bigger than some 40 footers and room to store lunch and accesories.

Question for Darren re. St Augustine ramps

Is there a ramp in St Augustine where a truck and trailer can be left for a few days? I've sailed in and out the inlet many times on other peoples' boats (30+ ft) but I'd like to do it on my own boat (23 ft trailerable) sometime and overnight by the Conch House. As you probably know, overnight parking is prohibited at the ramp on A1A by the Vilano Beach Bridge. Thanks in advance. Peter H23 "Raven"

Peter, have you tried the lighthouse ramp?

I have seen cars parked over night at the St Augustine Lighthouse boat ramp. Not sure if its legal or not. There is another place. Its between the lighthouse and the conch house. At the corner where Ocean Way meets Magnolia Dr. is a little beach and unofficial boat ramp right on Salt Run. I have lauched from there many a times. Ted

No sorry...

We (co-worker and I) always charter out of Commanche down there... I don't trailer my boat. So I don't have any clue about ramps down there...
