ST-30 Bidata Problems

I have a 1997 Hunter 280 with Autohelm ST-30 speed and depth (Bidata) instrumentation. Last weekend I noticed that the depth display kept flashing feet...feet..feet, and did not change depth reading. The speed display worked fine. The owner's manual says to check the tranducer cable or a connector fault, or to check cabling and security of transducer connector. I can't get to the boat for another 2 weeks, but I was just wondering if anyone else on this forum has had a similar problem and what the wise men and women did to correct it. Any suggestions in this matter are greatly appreciated. Ed

I had the same problem with my st50 depth transducer. According to Raytheon the flashing is the instruments way of telling you of a connection or transducer failure. Check your cable conncetion. Take the connection at the instrument then put it back on. Try to determine if the tranducer is fouled with marine growth. If it is clean it. I wound up replacing the dam thing with a retractable transducer (from Raytheon) so I can (I hope never) replace it (with the boat in the water) when it fails again.
