My trusty ST 1000 took a fall to the deck when I tripped onboard Friday and dropped it. When I powered it up, the compass made no sense -- nothing approaching the proper reading, wild see-sawing when I put it on auto, etc. I tried to recallibrate the compass by doing the sailing in circles thing, but when the compass finally calibrtated, it was about fifty degrees off. Big deal, I thought: I'll just hit auto and it will hold course anyhow. NOT! All it did was hold the tiller stationary, without holding a particular heading. Did I kill the fluxgate? I guess I need to send it to the Autohelm hospital, don't I? Or is there some other reset I'm missing? Thanks for the help.

Killed It!

It sounds like its dead or at least wounded. I would suggest sending it to the repair center.
