Assuming its an above deck wheel pilot, are you sure it's the belt squeaking not the drive shaft? A toothed belt shouldn't squeak. Try a squirt of spray lube (like white lithium grease, not WD40) where the drive shaft comes out of the motor. That will work on the lever too. You can put belt dressing from an auto parts store on the belt, but I don't think that's the problem.

Not sure if you are in saltwater or not? I just took my Raymarine wheel pilot off for a good cleaning and minor adjustment. I'm in Lake Michigan so it's fresh and started making a rubbing noise.

I pulled off the wheel and the whole assembly slides out. Very simple to open up and give it a good cleaning.

I love WD-40 but for this I used the Mclube or whatever it is called which is more Teflon and used for sail tracks etc. west marine sells it.

Good luck. It really was easy. Just take your time and like all things boating don't force with too much muscle.

Just take the cover off and flush it out with freshwater. That stops mine from squeaking. Check the owners manual before you use any spray lubricants. The belt could get damaged.
