squeaky floor

Hello all, Excellent forum, keep up the good work. When I finally know anything I will throw in my 2 cents. My question; I have a 99 240 and my floor( is it a floor or a deck?) squeaks loudly in the cabin if you step in the center of it. doesn't squeak on the edges, and the center seems to move slightly. Is there anyone that has this problem? the boat seems fine structurally from what I can see, no cracks or signs of overstressing. I was thinking about drilling a small hole in the center and injecting some epoxy in between the floor and the ballast tank. Also does anyone know if there is conduit installed in this boat for wire runs? Thanks, Ross

Same with 260

My floor does the same but I haven't worried about fixing it for I figure in another few years it might need replacing anyway. Conduts? Heaps of them but finding them is the trick. The easy way I found is to take out or unscrew all of the inspections plats fixed around inside her. Most of these are for getting to through hulls and electrical wires. Hunter do a good job in stting in these conduts for I have found it very very easy to route wires around the 260.

No wires

I've followed all the wiring in my 240 and there is nothing below the headliner, so that's not a concern. The only wire even close is the mast-to-CB hinge ground. Hunter uses foam in the headliner, but only on the sides, which makes it easy to route wires for new stuff. Maybe you can get some structural foam squirted in there using a piece of tubing connected to the nozzle and snake it in from the sides. I'm thinking about the access panels under the seats on both sides, to avoid drilling holes next to the balast tank.

floor

I assume you are talking about the wood flooring in the boat. First, do not drill at all or you will probably drill thru the floor and into the tank top and then you have problems. The tank lid for the water ballast tank is bonded to the hull. On top is the floor liner which is recessed for the insertion of a teak and holly sole floor. It is held down to the floor pan with either liquid nails or other bonding agent. It may be that there is not enough allowing some space between the wood floor and the floor pan causing the squeak. I suggest leaving it alone and get use to the squeak. You are fine unless you want to replace the floor and if you do get back with me.

dave,

dave, my 99 240 has a fiberglass? floor in the cabin it just creaks real bad when you put your full weight in the middle of the floor (sounds terrible)10 inches either side of center is no problem.
