Square foot area?

Square footage

Bottom paint makers suggest the following formula for figuring square footage BELOW the waterline: Boat length at waterline x max beam x .85. Obviously, a full keel boat would result in different number than a fin keel boat. I've used this formula on my H28.5 to estimate bottom paint and it works pretty well.

I'm planning on pulling my 79-30' this fall to paint and do maintenance. Does anyone thats done this before have a fairly close estimate on the square footage of suface areas above and below the waterline.
