A 50 foot channel has been dredged this spring, to a depth of 6 ft below zero tide. A green channel marker with a 2 ft white reflective band has been installed at the dredge area. Boats can pass close in to the green piling as needed. Overburden from Stawamus Creek creates a shoal to starboard that is immediately apparent at lower tides. When your vessel is close to a large ''A'' crane to starboard, it is time to move to port and pass close in to the green piling to port, ahead of you. You have 50 ft width of channel at this green marker.
The original range lights are still in place and can be used to guide vessels to the inner channel, where course will have to be adjusted to be tight to the green marker.

The original red marker and light are in place to guide vessels into the Mamquam Blind Channel, the official name on the chart.

Note that one guidebook has incorrectly named the Squamish River as the entry to the Squamish Harbour. Stay away from the entrance to the Squamish river, the spits and the western areas past the container port.
A 43 foot sailboat was the most recent boat to shoal out in the mouth of the river, with 30 knots of wind. There was nothing we could do for him until the highest tide at midnight, when the outflows helped him off.

There are as many as 50 kites and boarders out there on a good day, so vessels should stay to starboard as they get to the end of the bay past Watts Point. Winds will increase significantly as you get closer to shore.

The waters to the west of the bay toward Woodfibre, an old mill, calm first, even in inflow conditions, making it easy to douse sail in this area and motor in.

Reciprical moorage is available at the SYC and many US clubs are on our list. Many of our members are gone in the summer so moorage is available. Transient moorage is available too, call our Port Captain,Cliff Wood, at 604-815-9533 or cliff-linda@shaw.ca squamishyachtclub.com

The Squamish Govt dock has some transient moorage available, call ahead at 604- 892-3725. Pump out at govt dock.

There is good holding off Nexen Beach in gravel and winds are normally outflow at night.

Diesel or gas is not available unless you go to the service station downtown. Closest services are Lions Bay, Horseshoe Bay and Gibsons.

This weekend is the ''Test of Metal'' mountain bike race, and riding is very popular here.

We invite you to come up for our annual regatta, SOAR, in August, there is a short fleet for all boats to race, hosting the Fireball racers, live band at the clubhouse saturday night. Bottles of sponsored rum appearing after the races... a keg of beer served by the RCM SAR vollies...

We also host small groups, like the Burnaby Power Squadron, who come up each fall to visit.
Sincerely,
SYC VC
