Sprint 600 Windlass Woes

Anyone have a Sprint 600 out there? I just installed one and am having a host of problems. So far techincal service at Lewmar (which apparently consists of 1 person) can't find time to call me back. Any help would be appreciated. 1. No down action. The reverse won't work. It will raise the anchor (barely, see #3 below), but not lower it. All wiring checks out, etc. And, one way works ... 2. No free fall release. I can't get the gypsy drive cap (the top) to release with the orange handle that came with it. Per the instructions, 1/4 turn counterclockwise should release the gypsy, and hence the line for a free fall. Mine will not budge. 3. Rope jams. When try to raise the anchor, the rope catches on the fleming and does not go down into the locker. Proper size rope (1/2"), specified type (3 strand) it just seems to get caught in the teeth so tight that the rope does not go down, it tries to go around on the gypsy and jams behind the fleming. (have not yet tried chain, as I was trying to get the stupid thing to work before having the chain put on the line.) After a long time installing the thing, and now a hole in my deck, I'm very unhappy with this winch. (Note that I'm using all the techincal terms here becuase I've read the instruction manual so may times, I know them by heart. Help!

Mine has worked fine for 7months

I installed it just before we moved aboard.. Dec 4th 2001, And yes rope is a pain.. it works if you pull on it to help it through.. but I use 100' of chain and 150 of rode and the chain works great... Love it so far.. I have a 33.5 Hunter and a 33lb Bruce... I would not call lewmar but the sprint 600 people in Fl...

Thanks Jon

I tried 1-800-windlass, which is a number I got from the book. Do you have a better number in Florida? (I do not have my books with me.) BTW - where in New Bern? My family is there and I visit often. Actually my boat came from the Ramada/Sheraton. Remember "Tellico", a 37.5?
