I have ordered them from Hunter. They do break every so often, so I usually have a bag of spares.

That just reminded me. I need to order some more.

Thanks Tim,
Based on older e-mails it sounded like Hunter was not supporting this. I'll give them a call in the morning. FYI....I was down at the Alamitos Bay fuel dock (by car) picking up some CNG on Sunday afternoon and saw you coming in and SunBreak Seeker sure looked nice. Hopefully you were returning from a few days at the island!

Tim,
FYI.....Hunter does not support these latches or springes any longer. They also told me that the latches are manufactured by Perco but I don't think so. I'll search around for a replacement and let you know what I find

I've used run-of-the-mill home cabinet catches when I've been out of Hunter's plastic catches. They will work, but of course the screw holes are different, so it takes a little longer to replace.

Cabin Door Torsion Springs

I was unable to find a source for them, but had good luck cold-forming them from piano wire from ACE hardware. Use a size larger than you think you will need, do one turn around a dowel in a vice and bingo... done. Good luck! You can get the cabinet latches from Southco. They don't do retail, but you can e-mail or call them to get a supplier's name and they can handle it. I got a couple of dozen. I also ordered them a bit stronger than stock for more security. http://www.southco.com/class/c3-grabber-catch-latches-7399.html

One more thing re: torsion springs

....when I talked to Hunter, they told me the cabin door hardware manufacturer had been purchased by Southco. They have a zillion door latches, so there is a possibility torsion springs are available that would fit, but the component views don't look like mine. It's so easy to make them it isn't worth the expense.

Thanks Rick,
Looks like I'll be making some springs! The things we do to keep things going.....

Did you get around to replacing your cabin portlights...did you have any surprises?

Rick, would you happen to have a part number or other identifying information for those springs from Southco? It would be impossible to overstate to you the amount of time and trouble I have gone through to find replacements for mine. I like your idea of piano wire, but I'm not sure I'm talented enough to make that work. Would you believe I use modified clothespin springs? I know, I know . . . .

Anyway, any help on identifying those springs for order would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Paul.
