We have had our 1987 Oday 272 for two seasons, and we are preparing to launch next Saturday for our 3rd...
Every season we have worked on improving the boat. In the beginning, we wanted to get her to sail the way we wanted, fast, exciting, but with ease for us.. We feel we have accomplished this. Now we are on to more changes.

Prior Seasons... In addition to regular maintenance of hardware, repairs, pottng of all deck penetrations, butyl bedding hardware, we did the following:

We are working hard to meet the launch date. The boat looks ransacked! The weather is too cool and rainy. Oddly, I don't want to powerwash, scrub, and wetsand the boat in the rain. Luckily, we have a shed for the boat. Tonight, I finished rebedding the bolts and pushing them though the carpet hull liner.
We still have many things to do, but we are almost launchable. We can finish some things on the water.

I will post pictures after the boat is cleaned up and the mask is pulled off the plexi. We are leaving the mast on til after launch.

Whew! Thank goodness we launch soon! I need a rest.

Congratulations Andrew! You have accomplished a lot.....We are in the water, but have had either no wind or 60 mph gusty days....I was thinking about your projects today as a matter of fact....I am thinking of replacing the teak toe rails with new ones from D & R Marine....We've been sanding these since 1986 and
there really is little left....and working on them is a mess and takes a lot of time....Have you removed any of yours or did yours come with the teak toe rails? Also, I'm certain that if I use teak cleaner, etc. that any run-off will leave streaks on the waxed hull. I also need to try waterproof epoxy to fix our 30 gal. water tank which has a crack at the top of the tank that leaks water if we are healed over a lot....I could do as you did and replace the current leaking tank with one of the bladder types....what kind did you order and how many
gallon capacity? Also, who did you order it from.?....Thanks for your help as usual Andrew.....Patrick in Wichita

Yes. We have a teak toe rail. It is near the end of its life. I think I would try some of the HDPE products available now. The PlasTeak we used was easy to work with. Cuts, sands, routs very nicely.

These are the hatch doors I made. That is the plasteak framing them. The sliders are plasteak now too

The flat traveler and risers can be seen too.

Thank you Andrew, are your teak toe rails bent to fit the hull.(I can't see them in the picture above). ..I know they are available from D & R for a relatively hefty price....but if they are pre-bent it might be worth it. Good luck with your projects! Patrick

The toe rail is thin enough that it will bend as you screw it down. You will not need to pre-bend it.
The Plasteak product is just HDPE (king starboard type material). It is very flexible.

Got the boat in the water today! After a week of rainy days, power washing my boat and wetsanding my boat in the rain seemed ironic and fitting. Finally got it almost done!
