RE: SPREADER CAPS
I built my first boat in shop in 1956 as a teenager. She was an eighteen ft cat boat. One of the old timers that had befriended me told me to use thick leather as caps. You want one thickness down from sole leather.I am currently refurbing an O'Day 25 and am doing the same thing. Go to a shoe repair shop, take an existing cap with you and buy enough thick, plyable leather to cover it. Soak in warm water for an hour. Using pliers and visegrips stretch and mold the leather to fit over the spreader end and stays. Lace tightly with cord and paint. It was still on the boat and in good condition when I sold her 12 years later. This one will last longer than I will.stay safegordon
