I am a new owner of a 310 (#123). The yard that prepared it for transporation has lost the speader tip boots (see picture).

Does the boots have any function other than esthetic?

Thanks

The boots protect your beautiful furling genoa and mainsail from catching on the needle-like rigging wire that cinches the shrouds to the ends of the spreaders.
There are only two sizes at my local boat shop; it's pretty easy to select the right ones. Be sure to tape them around the spreader, otherwise you'll be shopping for them again.

Hi and Welcome to the 310 Club!

Joe summed it up perfectly. Don't want to rip your Genny on a close hauled course.

Enjoy your new 310.

If you plan on using it before you replace the spreader boot, make sure you go up and cover the end. You can use rigging tape or a piece of thick fabric or leather. Just don't risk damaging a sail!

Welcome aboard! You're not a Canadiens fan are you????

I'm glad to see the Catalina 310 community is well alive.

Many thanks for your answers.

Well, Canadiens is our local NHL team, but being a fan really depend on them... Maybe next session.
