Should the spreaders slide on the upper shrouds or should they be attached? Thanks everyone!

Matt: When I upgraded the spreaders of my 1975 C22, I found that the upper shrouds were wired onto the existing spreaders. That wire was wrapped around the point of contact so that shrouds were held tightly against the spreaders so that they couldn't come off when loose, but so the the shrouds could sitll slide as tension changes. Spreader attachment

The main stays are not to be attached to the ends of the spreaders. Attachment would never last because the mast moves around under stress. If the main stay didn't separate from the spreader the spreader would fail where attached to the mast.

Spreader boots

Okay - not an expert. However, did just replace my chainplates and all standing rigging with the Catalina Direct kit and video. All I can say is that they were quite clear about the side shrouds (upper stays) needing to move freely through the spreader boots. SJK SENDS
