My wife and I just recently purchased a 1999 Mac 26x. Have been poking around this site for a few days, so I figured it was time to say Hello, so Hello to all.

BTW, I do have a couple of questions regarding the angle the speader bars extend from the mast. Is it a problem that when running down wind, that the main sail spills into the spreader bars and shrouds ( I think thats what the cables are called )? If it is a problem, is it possible to change the angle of the spreader bars without changing the integrity of the boat?

Thanks
Rob G

Spreader angle

If you draw a straight line (or run a cable) from the chain plate to the shroud attach point on the mast and pull the shroud out like the string on a bow to the length of the spreader, you have the position of the spreader. Mine will swing free and find their own position as the mast is raised. The position should be in line with the attachments. If you are having a problem downwind, get the proper headsail.

BTW, welcome to this site. It has the greatest people I have come across on any site - IMHO

You can't change the geometry of the spreaders. It's not uncommon for the main to touch them going downwind.
