I have a 1980 catalina 22 with a single back stay. a frind has a catalina 25. He has upgraded his split back stay. my question is will his split work on my 22. will i need to replace his cables or can they be shortened. also does any one have a drawing to show how to configure this maze of blocks and cables. Or does anyone have a split back stay for a 22 that they would like to sell.

C22 split backstay

Not sure if the C25 one will work on the C22 but Catalina Direct has kits for sale. Go to www.catalinadirect.com and check it out. You can also make your own. First thing is to determine if your boat has the capability to accept another "chainplate" for the other leg of the backstay. On the port side if the transom, Catalina embedded a bronze strap into the top edge of the transom. Measure over where you would locate the port side chainplate and drill a 1/4" hole into the transom. If you get some bronze shavings, you will only have to drill it to the proper size and tap it for the bolt on the chainplate. If you dont have this strap in the transom, you will have to cut a hole on the inside of the transom to expose the area and put a nut and washer on the chainplate bolt. All the instructions come with the Catalina Direct kit. good luck Mike Bracket
