And how often do you change boats? Do you sell and take a season or two to get new bearings; or do you fall in love, buy a new boat and then find yourself saddled with multiple boat payments and storage costs? I have done both, and can recomend neither. The question becomes one of whether ownership of craft is essential to the ultimate enjoyment of the sport. Perhaps this is a question answered by each individual in their own heart. Sailing on the boat of another simply subtracts from the sum of decision making that defines the true art of sailing. Not having the responsibilities inherent with ownership does allow one an immense freedom both of time and of movement. A bad day of sailing beats a good day at the office on any boat, so whatever your answer, you must find the balance in much the same way as you find the groove with the jib trimmed tight and the traveler laying the boom parallel to the cabin and 3/4 inch off center and 20 knots of clear NNW air blasting across the foredeck. Clear all blocks and make way. OUT
