Does anyone have any experience flying a Spinnaker on a 170? I'm looking to get one. Any insight is appreciated. Good / Bad - things to be aware of.... Thanks! Eric

Wow in SF?
Eric, Never used one, but the thought of using one on the 170 in SF Bay made me say wow. That would have to be awesome in that wind. Hopefully someone here has some experiences to share with you and your 170. Have fun on the bay. JerryA

Hey Eric and Jerry, Wow! I assume spinnaker use on a 170 on SF Bay would be taken with a grain of salt. I've only pitchpoled my Laser before- planing downwind. But I bet those winds on SF Bay could easily make this occur to a larger boat like the 170. I'd imagine a spinnaker would only be safe on light to moderate SF Bay days. But I guess the point of a spinnaker on a dinghy is to power her up in light to moderate wind/ downwind legs? Not so much an attempt to break the sound barrier in heavier air?
