Hi am looking for some advice on rigging my spinnaker this year as i
have never used it, been using my genoa all the time with main, but no
good in light winds, recently 10.2knots down wind with genoa and
reefed main on the clyde in Scotland very exiting (Amazing what a
stripped down vega can do when conditions are right)

Cheers

Hi.:

One of the most important things to have are good gloves!
It's quite easy to get the spinnaker up, but it's a
different story taking it down, especially when you're
sailing single handed and the wind has picked up. Remember-
you only have two hands- but you'll need three! (or the
spinnaker may end up under the boat!) It's quite painfull
to have a sheet or the halyard running through your hands.

You need 2 sheets- they go all the way back- make them
longer than a jib sheet. You need a halyard, a topping lift
and a downhaul for the spinnaker pole. And if you ever fly
the spinnaker you'll be amazed how much fun it is- untill
you almost broach the boat while jibing...... but i
wouldn't do without one, and I'm sailing single handed.

Hi Brett

it's not that difficult to fly a spinnaker single handed-
all you need is a good pilot!
To get the spinnaker up is the easiest part- to take it
down can create problems- especially when the wind has
picked up. I once sailed all day with the spinnaker and
main, not realizing how much more the wind was blowing. I
did broach the boat when jibing with the mast in the water.
It's not a good feeling, indeed! Ever since then I keep a
watchful eye for wind speed.

Happy sailing.... Wilhelm, V-257

Hi Wilhelm,
I can understand that raising spinnaker singlehanded is ok - and dropping
it (with a "snuffer" ??) maybe ok too.

But how do you gybe the pole when singlehanded?

Unless you drop the spinny and raise it on the other side?

All the best - very impressed.

HI All,

Living now on the west coast and considering longer downwind runs I'm
thinnking about getting a spinnaker and appropriate pole. Does anyone
have one for sale? Any suggestions on the whole concept?
