Spinnaker type?

Oh wise internet forum folk,

I seek your guidance. When we bought our '83 Catalina 30 2 years ago it came with a spinnaker. I took the sail, in it's bag, home since we've never flown a spinnaker before and, having not sailed in 13 years, figured we should get the basics straightened out first.

So, I looked in the bag and thing looks brand new, sheets, chutescoop and all. What I'm sure about is if its Asymmetrical or Symmetrical. If Sym I have no interest in dealing with a pole, etc. (yeah, there's a pole on the boat but unlike the sail it looks heavily used).

My question, how can I tell which it is? I know the basic difference in theory. It's rather large and I can spread it out and measure but is there an easier way? I, clearly, have no experience with spinnakers so any help would be great.

Thanks!

Sym - two long edges equal.
Assym- one long edge longer.

An Assym should have the corners marked - tack, head, clew.

I'm going to guess that you have a gennaker package... just to make sure though.. take the previous suggestions. Anyhow.. if you're wondering what to do next.... here's a pretty good video from North sails that shows you how to rig it.
