I just use the anchor roller to attach the spinnaker tack. However, I don't know if there is any other option. Please comment.

Assuming you are talking Asymmetrical spinnaker, that is a good place to tie off the pennant. You can change the shape of the Asym by lengthening and shortening the pennant

Fupls that is the exact place I attach mine. However I would use a bit sturdier snap shackle. :D I see you have a furler so are you using a tacker around the jib? If so the Asym tack will be attached to that and the line from the tacker will go through this pulley to allow adjustments to the sail. Good luck flying your spinnaker!

Many thanks to all. I played my asym recently by this config, but I just worry if it is strong enough.

Like I said Fupls a bigger snatch block (sorry I said snap shackle in my first post) will work better for you. Two reasons. First the snatch block will make it easier to rig and second the lightweight one that you have will fail at the very worst possible time (wind gust). You do not want to be wrestling with a loose Asym in a blow. My suggestion is watch eBay for one. I purchased two very reasonably that way!

I applaud you for your resourcefulness; but, strictly speaking, it's not strong enough. If it's held so far it hasn't been under much strain.

Oddly enough this is the same idea Com-Pac use for the forestay on their little 16. But there's only a fraction of the load on that boat compared to that on yours.

However you might consider adding a boom bail a little closer to the stem, closer to where the mounting bolts are, and then inspecting the backing plates under the roller to ensure they're not pulling through or crushing any deck core. The hunk of SS that is the anchor roller is really pretty strong and given proper mounting practice I don't think you'd ever fatigue it from a boom bail. My only concern is that-- for obvious reasons, with an assymetrical-- you are attaching it so far away from the mounting bolts. The anchor roller bolts are meant to be in tensile-- the roller channel is trying to pry downwards on the end, when the anchor rode is under load, so the aft end of it is trying to pull up and the bolts are holding it down. But with the sail attached to it, the end is trying to be pried up, and now the aft end is under compression. This alternate working back and forth, no matter how infrequent, cannot be good in the long run.

You could acquire an oversized boom bail and have it bent more into a circle. (You could have this made at a shop as well.) It would provide clearance for the anchor stock and rode, lift the sail higher and give the shackle room to slide side-to-side. The heftier section of the bail stock might resist distortion over time; but this would be an easy thing to remove and replace and not particularly costly anyway.

Thanks to DianaOfBurlington's advice. That is exactly what my worry about using anchor roller. Now I only play my kite under light breeze condition.

how strong does it need to be???

Couple of questions:
What wind strength is your asym rated to?
What size line do you use on your asym tack

You can make a "tacker" from a suitable length of wire pendant then string it with golf balls with holes drilled in them. Just shackels to the asym tack, around the jib and back to the shackel. Google parrel beads.

Bill, thanks for the information on "Parrel Beads". Very timely since I had been wondering what the proper name was for them. Thanks
