Spinnaker Sheet Leads

Looking for some advice on using my new-to-me spinnaker. Really it is a Pearson 323 "Gennaker"...with a 3/16" bolt-rope...that when flying looks kinda/sorta like a huge Genoa...maybe 185%. I fly it free like a spinnaker and do not use my furler foil...Genoa is furled when flying the spinnaker.

I have flown it 3 times now with yesterday being the most successful effort so far. However, I slid my jib sheet leads all the way aft on the tracks on the side decks but that doesn't seem far enough aft.

Was wondering if anyone has ever attached a snatch-block to the stern deck cleats and led their spinnaker sheets forward to the winches from there? Are those cleats securely mounted enough to hold the force of a big spinnaker under medium wind loads?

(* I didn't get any pictures of the clew yesterday but it was pretty clear to me that I needed to lead the sheet further aft. *)

Another option I was mulling over was using my forespar whisker pole as some sort of bowsprit to pull the tack further forward. I could strap the pole down securely to the anchor roller and deck and let it stick maybe 3' or so out in front of the anchor roller. Thoughts on that?

Appreciate any insights or thoughts on this issue.

Thanks,
Jim

I attach my blocks directly to the cleats and use some elastic cord to hold them up...easy and works great.

Not sure the whisker pole can handle the loads in the direction you are talking about...maybe some else has tried it and can report the results.

So looks like 2 "thumbs-up" for attaching spin sheet blocks to the stern cleats.

I will give it a try.

Thanks,
Jim

My setup for my asym......I call it a twing.
Its not a twing but it's a good solution. Getting the sheet back will pay off.

I'd think about replacing the thin blue line with shock cord, so it is sure to never bear the load. And you probably would be able to replace about 150 bucks worth of stainless with 4 bucks worth of dyneema loops.

When I talk to the 1st mate I would say hand me the twing and she would hand me this twing.

The twing is stored on the dodger using the blue string.

I use the basic twing for a lot of things......including sheet lines what ever they are.

The picture showing the twing ..........is not how you would install a line to a cleat with a block attached......I would install the line like you see the aft deck line is installed to the cleat.

I do not have a picture of the twing being used on a sheet line but maybe you do and can show everyone how you use a twing.

Thanks for being observant.......seems pictures are worth a thousand words sometimes.

Off topic Paul but what's the access port just inboard of your fuel fill used for?
