Hi there - does anyone have any experience / advice on whether it is feasable or sensible to fit a spinnaker pole to fly a symetric spinnaker on an Oceanis 350 or similar? All the chat I see mentions only cruising chutes.

I'll check

my owner's manual and see if a spinaker and pole is listed on the sail plan diagram. I'll let you know after this weekend. BTW, I use an asymetric w/ sock. MArc

I looked last

night at the sail plan in my owners manual. There is no mention of a spinaker there or in the sales brochure :( Sorry. You may want to consult Beneteau or a rigger. My finace, who once worked for Neil Pride Sails, states that due to the baby stay, there is alot of stress where a pole would attach and does not recommend adding more holes to the spar. I fly an asynmetrical w/ a sock and enjoy it. Good luck, Marc

Thanks Capt Mark

Thanks for the info. My previous boat was a Cavalier 30, and it too had a babystay, but flew a sym spin fine. The Jybing was a little tricky - passing the pole under the babystay and changing ends - fortunately the uphaul was below the top of the babystay, so this maneouvre didn't end up with crossed lines. It's the stress and rig I'm woried about. The asym that was on the boat when I got it is a little large - I think it may have come off another boat with a taller stick. Even pulled right down to the bow-roller, and with a fully hoisted halyard, there is a lot of slack in the luff. I was figuring that if I had to replace it, I'd go the whole hog and get a sym and fit a pole - maybe not such a good idea though. I suppose an alternative might be trying to figure a way to fit a prod, to take the slack out of the asym - any ideas on that? Cheers Tony
