I have a 9.2A that came with an extra halyard and a spinnaker pole, but it was never rigged. I have a roller furling for the headsail to work around. How has anyone dealt with the hardware at the masthead?
My S2 8.5 has a bail fixed to a tang plate bolted to the top of the mast head. The bail sticks out in fron of the mast head about 2-3 inches, above the forestay and everything else (except a windex, antenna and anemometer). A pulley block is atached to the bail and the spin halyard runs through the pulley. It's a pretty standard configuration.
If you think you could use a spare jib halyard, you might, but I don't know how long it will last. As you noticed, it will interfere with and chafe on the forestay or roller fruling.
