I am thinking of putting a spinnaker on our 290. I am wondering if anyone has any information on the rigging, pros, and cons, size, cost etc. and the most effective way to do this. I single hand alot so keeping it simple is best.
Thanks

For single handing you can't beat a cruising spinnaker (asymmetrical). They're easy to hoist and douse and need no pole. I fly mine single handed all the time.

You'll need to know your IJPE measurement for the loft to make you a new aspin. Mine is approx 620 ft2 with Spin Sock. With the sock it is easy to hoist, launch and snuff the aspin. There's a hole on my anchor roller where I put a block for the Tack line, leading it either back to cockpit clutch (temporary remove #2 reef) or to bow mooring cleat. If you don't have spare hole on roller, just secure the Tack line to the roller. Ofcourse you must have the spin Halyard above the jib furler to start with. You can make do with the coach roof winch but its better to have the spin winch on the cockpit coaming. Another important thing is to have a turning block at the stern seat railing for the spin sheet to turn around before going to the winch. Bought my spin from HongKong Sail. The Aspin is ok but the Sock is so-so. Sock mouth tends to collapse (soft metal wire rod to make roundish shape) making launching and snuffing very difficult. I modified it by inserting a cut-out plastic dustbin (Ikea) to prevent closing of the mouth. Now it works great.
