I have been searching for a spinnaker banding tube for several weeks on the internet. I have yet to find one. Anyone know where to get one?

They will be hard to find. The racing rules prohibit banding a spinnaker. Forget which rule number, but it prohibits throwing stuff off of the boat. The rubbers bands and/or yarns would come off and into the water, thus they are prohibited.

While RRS do not specifically prohibit it, it does put you at the mercy of RRS rule 55, the Sailing Instructions, or the protest committee. Because of this most boats no longer do them, either having their Spinnaker's modded with Velcro, or doing string drops, or simply got better at launching. For this year's Rule Book, the rule has been modified to allow the penelty to be at the discretion of the sailing instructions, something that it didn't explicitly say last year. Half the people I know use a plastic garbage can with the bottom cut out.

Rule 55 (Trash Disposal) In addition to its prohibition on competitors intentionally putting trash in the water, which supports the Basic Principle (Environmental Responsibility), rule 55 now states that this rule applies at all times while afloat (which formerly was stated in the preamble to Part 4, Other Requirements When Racing), and that the penalty for a breach of this rule may be less than disqualification. For instance, this will permit protest committees to use their discretion on whether, and how much, to penalize a boat for allowing sail stops to fall in the water after a spinnaker set.

What size boat? Surely not the C25.

Yea, that's one of the velco systems I mentioned. Their web site is silly. The picture shows the system on a First 10R/33.7, a VERY small boat for banding. If we banded on Kestrel (bigger First 36.7) people would laugh at us. Part of the problem is they have their headsail down. Launching under the foot of the genoa keeps the spin blanketed for the entire hoist.

Most sail makers have a system they back and will do if you want.

I was wondering what the possibilities that the recovery line end up in the water and wrapped around the keel of prop? Just a thought.

Oh good eye. Most systems I know have captive/attached velcro that just opens under pressure. That system uses an external line and loops that must be retrieved. One more thing to deal with. Its possible that the line stays attached to the head of the sail when the kite is up.

There are a number of spinnaker "socks" on the market that should do what you want. They are often available from sailmakers.

Yes, but totally different thing. A sock is nice but much slower to deploy when racing with crew, and adds weight aloft.

IMO, Just looks like a lot of extra work and more things that can go wrong. With a little practice and attention to detail you should be able to learn to raise and lower a Spinnaker blanketed by the Genoa/Jib without making a mess of things in a race. You just need to go out and practice the process multiple times in different winds and train the team. Then sail with the team.

More often then not the lack of practice is what leads to the sail handling issues. Been on boats when the owner (who loves to see his boat sailing under the spinnaker has fouled the halyard prior to hoist, or set the pole on the spinnaker under the jib sheets. Only because no practice with the sail. Just "Lets go racing".)

Then again why practice when you believe you can just do?

Note sure what you mean there. Around here the spin pole always goes under the jib sheets.
Yes. Except the lazy sheet is always above. Allows you to tack almost RIGHT AWAY after a douse.
